I love packaging! Newton shoes & Clever little bag by Yves Behar @ fuseproject

I love packaging and I love designers working with in mind the environment.

I remember the project made by Newton shoes using an egg’s like paper to wrap their very special midfoot/forefoot running shoes. That was cool! But never came into production.

Read more about Newton’s packaging design on TreeHugger. If you’re curious about what exactly is forefoot running check out this. Or take a look at Newton’s YouTube channel.

Another interesting project is “hello little clever bag” developed by the designer Yves Behar at fuseproject for Puma shoes.

It took 2.000 ideas, over 40 prototypes and 21 months of development to create this innovative shoe-box that reduces material and shipping costs.

The result is 65% less cardboard used saving 8500 tons of paper, 20 millions megajoules of electricity, 1 million liters of water and the carbon dioxide is reduced by 10 tons.

Watch Puma’s presentation video of Clever Little Bag:

Read the article on DesignBoom.

I love TED: Ideas worth spreading and their videos (be sure to subscribe TEDtalks on YouTube) and this speech by Yves Behar is really interesting.

Style never fades – 1934 BMW R7 by Alfred Böning

A friend of mine once told me: “Do you drive a Volvo? You should have a long white beard!“. In fact I do have a beard, but it’s not white… at least not yet! My grown-up fashion style in the instruments I use to move myself into space is the same for two wheels…

I should admit I’m a BMW Motorrad fan. I love the bikes this German guys create. So when I first saw an article about this BMW R7 1934 prototype from the motorcycle engineer Alfred Böning I immediatly felt in love with it!

The bike was forgotten for over 70 years in a box. I like to think of it like Indiana Jones’s Raider’ of the lost ark ending, in an endless warehouse.

The bike was rediscovered back in 2005, it was complete only at 70 percent, many pieces were taken away in the past. The battery’s acid had corroded the frame and the rust did the rest of the job on all other parts.

A special team of highly specialized BMW guys started a very hard task: restoring from ground up the R7 prototype and taking it back to the road.

Original drawings of this one-of-a-kind masterpiece were founded in the BMW’s Archives. Missing parts were rebuilt, the frame restored and painted again and metal parts mirror like chromed.

Enjoy it in all its never faded beauty…

Boxed Water Is Better!

Part sustainable water company, part art project, part philanthropic project, and completely curious.

Boxed Water Is Better, is a boxed water company.

Started with the simple idea of creating a new bottled water brand that is kinder to the environment and gives back a bit – we found that it shouldn’t be bottled at all, but instead, boxed. So we looked to the past for inspiration in the century old beverage container and decided to keep things simple, sustainable, and beautiful.

About 85% of the Boxed Water container is made from a renewable resource, trees, that when harvested in a responsible, managed, and ethical way serve as an amazing renewable resource that benefits the environment even as it’s renewed. We ship our boxes flat to our filler which is significantly more efficient compared to shipping empty plastic or glass bottles to be filled. The flat, unfilled boxes we can fit on 2 pallets, or roughly 5% of a truckload, would require about 5 truckloads for empty plastic or glass bottles. Our cartons can also be broken down to their original flat state, and are recyclable in some areas. The Carton Council, www.recyclecartons.com, is continuously adding new carton recycling facilities throughout the country. We’re also giving 20% of our profits back to the resources our product is composed of – water and trees. Not only does it simply make sense, but we really enjoy supporting water and forestation organizations as it’s part of our company’s ethos and way of thinking to give back and participate. All that and an over-arching focus on simple and beautiful design that compliments our brand as well as the spaces it’s sold and consumed in.

Tema che richiama il lavoro di NutriAid e la lotta alla malnutrizione infantile. la sagoma del Madagascar si inserisce nella griglia come parte del colorato cappello del bimbo.
